The Venue

 

The congress is being organized by the National University of Colombia, in agreement with La Salle University. The academic agenda will be carried out at the Chapinero Campus of La Salle University, located in one of the most central areas of the city, with access to sites of tourist interest and a wide range of hotels and restaurants.

The “La Salle”  neighborhood is part of the “Chapinero” locality in Bogotá, which is quite large and includes other nearby neighborhoods, including:

* “Chapinero Alto” (5 minutes walking)

* “Emaús” (15 minutes walking and about 10 minutes by taxi with an approximate cost of 3 USD or 10 thousand Colombian pesos)

* “Quinta Camacho” (which is 25 minutes walking and about 15 minutes by taxi with a maximum cost of 3-4 USD 10-15 thousand Colombian pesos)

* “Zone G” (15 minutes on foot and about 10 minutes by taxi with an approximate cost of 3 dollars 10-15 thousand Colombian pesos)

* “Zona Rosa” (which is 45 minutes walking and about 20 minutes by taxi with a maximum cost of 4-5 dollars 15-20 thousand Colombian pesos)

If you want to be able to walk to/from the congress, it is best to stay as close as possible to “La Salle-Chapinero” and if possible between Carreras 7 and 3, and between Calles 53 and 72. But if you prefer other areas tourist attractions, the “Zona Rosa”, the “Parque de la 93” and the “Parque El Virrey” are neighborhoods that are relatively close by taxi.

Also bear in mind that the average temperature is very pleasant in Bogotá and is around 14-16°C. This year due to the phenomenon of La Niña, the rainy season could extend until the dates of the congress. We recommend having an umbrella on hand and suitable clothing for rain.

Bogotá was founded on August 6th 1538, so you can enjoy a city of 484 years of history, tradition and culture, which offers a legacy of traditions and experiences in which the diversity of cultures of the country and its colonial past are intertwined.

The city is the capital of the country and is constituted by 20 localities where artistic, cultural, political, economic, and industrial experiences take place. It is the third highest capital in the world (after La Paz and Quito) and is in the eastern mountain range of the Andes at an average altitude of 2,625 meters above sea level, so it is advisable to bring long pants and jacket for the cold.

During the months of your visit, temperatures will range between 9 and 18 ° C, which is not an impediment to enjoy the cultural offerings, which stands out for its exhibitions of arts such as: graffiti, theatre, dance exhibitions, and a lot more.

Your stay in Bogotá

You will arrive at the El Dorado airport, where you will have one hour of free WiFi to check information about your hotel reservation, transportation options (depending on the time you arrive) and other information. The most common transportation choices available are: Transmilenio (mass public transportation system), Taxis and private driver apps.

Although you can get mobile data for your cell phone at the airport and change your money to the local currency (Colombian Official Peso COP), one alternative are shopping malls, in where are offered more favourable prices for these services.

The gastronomic offer in Bogotá is not only very diverse but also delicious. In the city you can find typical dishes from all regions of the country and from different parts of the world, so that you can taste both vegetarian and vegan food throughout the capital.

In addition, you can also enjoy the biodiversity of the country by visiting the Botanical Garden of Bogotá, which houses the Tropicarium, where you can have a quick immersion of 5 characteristic ecosystems of the country in one place guided by an environmental educator.

Finally, the city has 19 large marketplaces, one in each urban locality, where you can find a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, meats, herbs and typical food, from the organic farms of nearby municipalities, that means relishing delicious tropical food.

The largest and most important public higher education university in the country that gives it its name, whose complex of buildings are characterized by their simplicity, symmetry, and white colour. For that reason, this campus had received the name of “The White City (La ciudad blanca)”

Neighbourhood placed between 65th and 76th streets, above Carrera 7ª, which has some of the most luxurious houses and apartments in the city. This totally attractive sector is a gastronomic, fashion and cultural reference for the city.

  • 93 Park (4.5 km)

Around 93 park you will find a variety of bars, restaurants, cafes and ice cream shops. Black Cat, the Site, Café Renault and the Juan Valdez store, the largest coffee shop in the world, these are the places most visited by tourists and locals.   • Bogotá Botanical Garden (6.5 km)

Named José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden honouring the Spanish astronomer and botanist, who promoted the Royal Scientific Expedition of the Viceroyalty of New Granada.   • Bolivar Square (6.6 km)

Located in the centre of the city between Carreras Séptima (7th) and Octava (8th) with Carreras Décima (10th) and Once (11th) Streets, it has an approximate extension of 13,903 square meters and a maximum capacity for 55,600 people.
